GATHERINGS AND EVENTS COMING UP:
CAMP MINI HA-HA, 2009
Camp Mini Ha Ha is an annual week-long miniaturist
retreat held at the beautiful old United Church Camp
Meeting Grounds in Berwick, Nova Scotia,
Canada. (to view some of the grounds go to:
http://www.berwickcamp.org/2008/137index.htm )
The camp is a non-profit event, bringing together
miniaturists at every level of experience, from
beginner to expert to teacher, and is designed to
promote sharing while learning and having a whole
lot of fun. Our teachers come from near and far last
year from Hawaii for instance, campers
from all over the world are welcome... and many even
from as far away as western US and Canada come back
yearly. Camp Mini Ha Ha is limited to 30 attendees
to keep it a small close mini community!
This year’s project is a Sea Shanty... loosely based
on a Joann Swanson design (with her permission!).
The basic building is provided and can be finished
as anything you wish... a cottage, shop, bait
shop... even a garden shed! There are secondary
workshops presented as well... and often there
are extra kits to take home to complement the main
workshop theme. Last year and this coming year we
are welcoming John Meecham... a very accomplished
miniature silversmith... originally of
Britain... now of Mahone Bay, NS! Last year we made
a silver ladle for a punch bowl... this year... it's
a secret till camp time... sorry!
We
attempt to complete a miniature setting during the
camp, and as much as possible, both major and minor
projects at camp are designed to accomplish just
that. At lunch, you will receive a small surprise
bag of "Tidbits"... small miniature items created by
fellow campers and CMHH Exec,
and a larger gift
(camper exchange gifts)
is received by all after dinner, every day.
Workspaces are available 24 hrs. a day, to
accommodate night owls and early
birds, instructional sessions are offered in the
daytime schedule. On Sunday
all
campers will have a "shore tour" for beach combing
of items for their scenes. The sea
coast is not far away, and beachcombing sometimes
turns up amethysts. Then it's off to a famous
seafood restaurant on the dock over Hall's Harbour.
The $425.00 contribution per camper covers the costs
of six days of accommodation (5 nights), all meals
during camp (except Sunday supper eaten out) and the
camp main, and minor projects.
Accommodation is a
rustic private room with double bed
and shared bathroom facilities. Campers provide
their own bedding/linens and transportation to and
from camp. Guest instructors for CMHH08 will include
Joy Ann Parker (Swallowhill Miniatures) , Connie
Stitt,
(well known for her miniature
florals/floral kits) and John Meacham
(Miniature
silversmith).
There are a few openings left for this September’s
camp. For further information, you can
contact either of the founders of CMHH... Cheryl
Hartlen cherylgbc@ns.sympatico.ca
902-860-2485 or Debbie Parrott
debparrott@accesswave.ca 902-861-4535.
Once a person is officially registered they are
guaranteed a spot at that years camp... they will
then be invited to join the CMHH Yahoo group where
all past and present Campers meet to discuss the up
coming camp... reminisce and generally carry on the
fun of CMHH throughout the year... this is one of
life's experiences that no one can truly put into
words... you have to exp
