SATURDAY NIGHT DINNER AFTER MET One of the great things about going to the MET show in October, is getting together with other miniaturists after the show closes on Saturday night for dinner. This year we went to a Chinese buffet, and although we reserved for 35 people, they managed to fit the more than 50 people who turned up, into the same room.
WHITBY WORKSHOP The meeting was held 2007-09-19 at a coffee shop in Whitby (it has a community meeting room) and needless to say, the coffee and donuts were in good supply. Phyllis McDonald was the project leader. The project was a circular display stand with three tiers on which cosmetics, pastries, toys, anything imaginable could be arranged. It was taken from the 2007-01 issue of Dolls' House Magazine.

I haven't put up the photos of some of the displays, but will try doing that later
ORILLIA FIRST STREET IRREGULARS We had our first meeting on Tuesday, September 4th, with a workshop. Well.... we don't have 'formal' meetings at the Orillia Club - strictly chat and workshops. We meet at the home of Leanore Wiancko and she has lots of room for workshops for our small Club. At this meeting we had seven members and we made silk Regency slippers and shoe boxes. Everyone got at least one slipper finished and said they were going to finish the project. It is an easy workshop, but they all agreed that while easy, it is fiddly. Joy Parker was the instructor this time. If you would like a tutorial on how to make the slippers, have a look here.... http://www.swallowhill-miniatures.com Go to the Projects section at the left margin and click on 'Making Stockings and Slippers'. Be sure to use the Saran Wrap so the slippers can be removed from the foot. We had our *first* annual luncheon too! Six of us met at the Stephen Leacock Museum restaurant in Orillia and had a lovely lunch. We had such a good time that we decided that from now on, our first meeting of the year would include lunch at the Museum. At the next meeting in October, we will make books. The book makings have been supplied by Maureen Heuchert. Thanks Maureen! We are going to try to make two books... Maureen says it takes about two hours to make your first book, but we shall see how we get on. *g*. The Orillia First Street Irregulars meet the first Tuesday of each month, except in July and August. We would be delighted to have others join us. Get in touch with Joy is you need further information. joy@swallowhill-miniatures.com Photos read from left to right.........
FOUR CLUBS GET TOGETHER FOR THE ANNUAL FUN WORKSHOP DAY We think we are the only Clubs in Canada that get together every year for a fun workshop day. We may be wrong! If we are, let us know - and let us know about your get-together. Photos are appreciated. We had the Orillia Club (First Street Irregulars), the Whitby
Club (One Inch Real Estate), and this year we had the Scarborough
Club and a member from the Cobourg Club too! Roy Hogan taught a small diorama. He had the glass and the frame and the parts all cut out for us so it was a fairly easy job to assemble. Then we got busy with wallpaper and trims and paint and did the inside of the box. I did mine sideways so that it would be 1/2 scale (about 4"x6" inside measurements) but most did it the other way and put in a 1/12th scale scene. We were also given the parts to make two corner shelves and a table - which a lot of people managed to assemble and paint and insert into their scene. I do have the inside of my box papered and floored and done, but you can see that the outside needs to be stained or painted. I am still deciding *g*. Photo Here are some photos of the miniaturists who attended the day.
Missing from photos....... That makes a total of eleven miniaturists who attended! And we did have such a good time - as we always do of course *g*. Watch this space for information on next year's workshop!
